What’s In Store for the INFINITI Q50 Eau Rouge Concept Car?

INFINITI treated enthusiasts to a peak at the Q50 Eau Rouge concept car at the 2014 Detroit auto show. Based on the Q50 luxury sedan, the Eau Rouge comes equipped with the 3.8-liter twin turbocharged V6 powertrain. The Eau Rouge puts the power to the road with its all-wheel drive system. A spin at the Millbrook Proving ground confirmed that the Eau Rouge can dash from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under 4.0 seconds with a top speed of 180 miles per hour. The trial was conducted by four-time Formula One world champion Sebastian Vetel. Infinity is using Vetel’s feedback for the next stage of the vehicle’s development, including packaging and viability.

Examining the interior features, you will notice that a high-grip racing steering wheel with Formula One paddle shifters has replaced the standard model. Sports seats are also included in the interior package. The center console comes with body-colored panels, and the doors are treated with black accents.

Red is the color of choice for the exterior. There is a high-gloss clear coat applied to give the appearance of depth.  Lightweight carbon filler is used on the front and rear bumpers along with the door mirror casings.  The exhaust is run through a dual-exit sports system with chrome outlets. A large rear spoiler improves handling and downforce. Front and rear tracks are wider too, 61.6 inches in the front and 62.6 inches in the rear with steel fender flares. A diffuser houses the oversized tailpipes and F1 styled brakelight. The exterior is topped off with 21-inch lightweight alloy forged wheels.

The Eau Rouge’s aerodynamic performance and suspension are being examined further by engineers. Computer-controlled suspension is a possibility. Wind tunnel testing is being utilized for aerodynamic refinements, including underbody airflow.

If you’re wondering about the name Eau Rouge, it was taken from a corner of the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium, which has seen some of the most incredible driving feats in Formula One history. This supercar is certainly worthy of the Eau Rouge name. Infinity is a promoter of the Red Bull Formula One racing team.

Infinity has also considered a sports diesel to power the Eau Rouge, but the prototype is equipped with a 3.8-liter twin turbocharged powerplant. We can only hope that the Q50 Eau Rouge goes into production soon.
