Record Fuel Economy of New Cars

The average fuel economy for a new car has hit a record high of 24.9 mpg. This is almost 5 mpg better than when the University of Michigan Transportation and Research Institute began keeping track in October 2007. Researchers found this number by calculating the monthly sales for each individual model line and the combined EPA fuel economy listed in the EPA Fuel Economy Guide. They claim that the data indicates that the average should continue to increase.
